Site & Ground Investigation

Solum Saxum Consultants provide expert geotechnical solutions, from desk-based Preliminary Risk Assessments to complex site investigations, ground-structure interactions, and geotechnical design.

We ensure your project starts with a solid foundation - built on expertise, precision, and reliability.

What we offer

  1. Boreholes & trial pitsUsed to assess soil structure, strength, and contamination, investigations may include boreholes for deep sampling, trial pits for shallow profiling, and in-situ testing such as Standard Penetration Tests (SPTs).
  2. Groundwater & gas monitoringGroundwater wells may be installed in boreholes to monitor water levels and contamination, while ground gas monitoring (e.g., methane, carbon dioxide) is carried out on sites near landfills or organic-rich soils.
  3. Soil & Water Sampling
Soil samples are sent to a UKAS-accredited lab for chemical (e.g., heavy metals, hydrocarbons, asbestos) and geotechnical (e.g., Atterberg limits, particle size, shear strength) testing.

Why is a site & ground investigation important?

  1. Prevents costly surprises Identifies ground risks before construction
  2. Ensures regulatory compliance Meets environmental and planning requirements
  3. Optimises foundation design Avoids over-engineering and unnecessary costs
  4. Protects human health & the environment Mitigates contamination risks
